چکیده
Fungi are one of the major lineages of eukaryotes and the sister group of animals. We will consider evolutionary relationships among different groups of fungi, their ecology and significance to humans. We will explore fungal lifestyles, their reproduction, and the ways that fungi use to communicate with each other and with their symbiotic partners. In addition to true fungi, we will study several distantly related groups of organisms that share with fungi absorptive nutrition, filamentous somatic structures, and spore-based reproduction. We will reconstruct fungal phylogenies using molecular evolution methods. We will also isolate fungi from the environment and learn how to identify them using molecular and morphology-based approaches.

Evaluation of the status of laboratory practices and the need for continuing education in medical mycology.
A survey to determine the need for training in medical mycology was sent to 605 US laboratories. Training needs were determined by comparing actual laboratory mycology practices with recommended practices, documenting the extent of mycology training reported by employees, and asking respondents to specify the fungi they considered most difficult to identify. The response rate was 56.7% (with on...

متن کاملMET receptor is a potential therapeutic target in high grade cervical cancer
Cervical cancer is one of the leading causes of death among women suffering from tumors. Current treatment options are insufficient. Here, we investigated the MET receptor as a potential molecular target in advanced cervical cancer. Downregulation of MET receptor expression via RNA interference in different cervical carcinoma cell lines dramatically decreased tumor growth and forced tumor diffe...
متن کاملToward genome-enabled mycology.
Genome-enabled mycology is a rapidly expanding field that is characterized by the pervasive use of genome-scale data and associated computational tools in all aspects of fungal biology. Genome-enabled mycology is integrative and often requires teams of researchers with diverse skills in organismal mycology, bioinformatics and molecular biology. This issue of Mycologia presents the first complet...
